WMD, Hazmat Spill: Alameda County First Responders Prepare

This week crews worked a simulated hazmat incident involving a FedEx cargo plane and a FedEx truck that contained a fake bomb.

ALAMEDA COUNTY, CA — Ever wonder how first responders train for a large-scale hazardous material spill or attack? This week Alameda County Fire Department crews participated in just such an exercise at the Oakland International Airport.

Multiple agencies participated in the training alongside ACFD, including Oakland Fire, the Alameda County Sheriff's Office, the FBI and the Hayward-based 95th Weapons of Mass Destruction Civilian Support Team.

This week's simulated hazmat incident involved a FedEx cargo plane and a FedEx truck that contained a fake bomb. There were simulated deaths and injuries, so crews worked on identification and mitigation. Watch the attached video to see the exercise.
