Dublin Teen Helps Feed Tri-Valley Seniors: 'Zoomers To Boomers'
The local "Zoomers To Boomers" chapter is one of 22 such groups that connects Generation Z volunteers with Baby Boomers in need of help.
DUBLIN, CA — A Dublin High School student has started a "Zoomers to Boomers" group to help seniors and immunocompromised Tri-Valley residents get groceries.
The "Zoomers" — or members of Generation Z — volunteer to grocery shop for "Boomers" — or members of the Baby Boomer generation. "Zoomers to Boomers" groups have been formed in more than two dozen areas from Honolulu to Staten Island.
Founder Liam Day said he heard about the "Zoomers to Boomers" organization and wanted to get involved. He was already familiar with the concept of food delivery services and felt like it could be a way to pitch in.

Day has recruited a group of friends willing to help out too.
"When I heard all of the sad stories on the news of what was going on, I wanted to help in any way that I could," Day said. "I realized how fortunate I was to be a healthy teenager and not someone who had to worry about losing their job or getting severely ill from acquiring (the new coronavirus)."

Seniors and immunocompromised residents of Dublin, Pleasanton and Livermore may write down their grocery list here, Day said. Volunteers will also accept third-party requests to deliver to an elderly/immunocompromised family member and requests from people who are caring for immunocompromised family members.
Participants are asked to limit lists to 12 items and send up to one request per week.

Day or a friend will pick up the items within 24 hours, then call or text recipients to let them know their purchases have been made. "Zoomers" will wear gloves and masks, and practice social distancing while shopping, Day said.
Payments may be made in cash, by check or via cell phone app Venmo. There are no delivery fees and tips will not be accepted, but any tips forced upon couriers will be donated to people in need, according to the "Zoomers to Boomers" order form.
