GLENDALE, CA — A 33-year-old man was killed when two work vehicles collided on the Glendale (2) Freeway in Glendale and one of them rolled over repeatedly until coming to rest on its tires, authorities said Tuesday.
George Rangel Jr. was pronounced dead at the scene, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's office said. An autopsy was pending to determine his cause of death.
The crash was reported to the California Highway Patrol at 3:30 p.m. Monday on the northbound Glendale Freeway at Mountain Street, near Glendale Community College.
A witness told the CHP a white truck "barrel rolled," following the impact, leaving the occupant trapped inside and blocking freeway lanes. A second work truck was also reported involved.
A SigAlert was issued at 3:49 p.m. shutting down lanes 2 through 5 and the Mountain Street on-ramp. The lanes were reopened at about 10:45 p.m.
