Q: Hi Jo, I'm about to put my house up for sale. Is there anything I can do to increase its value before it goes on the market?
--Mike N., Eagle Rock
A: Hi Mike! Congrats on the move! There are definitely little things you can do to your home that make a big difference when it comes to getting great offers:
- Neutral color palettes sell better! Give your walls a neutral paint job and use your furniture to spice up your decor with accents of color.
- Put away your family photos and de-clutter. Potential buyers like to envision themselves living in the home, so try to make it as neutral as possible.
- Get that grass a little greener. Lay down some new sod; it freshens up the look of the whole yard.
- Give your kitchen and bathroom a mini-facelift. Some new hardware--knobs, faucets, etc.--give the rooms a polished, modern look.
- Make quick fixes and small repairs. Nobody wants to move into a new home and have to call a repairman!
- Work with an agent. Putting your house on the market at the perfect price will have it flying off the shelves.
Best of luck, Mike!
