At least one praying mantis invaded the catnip plant in my backyard. It's a baby, less than half an inch long. But I don't see them all that often in Los Angeles. Maybe I am not looking in the right places, but this is only the second time in my lifetime I have seen one in a garden. Which is sad because they are awesome critters.
Gardeners know, stagmomantis californica (the western breed of mantis) is a benefit to any garden, since they will consume any and all pests that come near them. And they are cute and comical in a space-alien kind of way. This little guy has spent the week on my nip plant. I hope he sticks around. As long as there are bugs for him to eat, I am sure he will.
