Blog: Understanding Light Sabers, Photon Rays and Laser Acupuncture

An array of rays directed at an acupuncture point has been shown to help lower the heart rate.

Light sabers? Photon rays? Laser acupuncture? Yes and it has been shown to help lower the heart rate when applied to an acupuncture point. Now we are cooking ... with lasers.

In recent studies conducted by the Sino-European Transcontinental Basic and Clinical High-Tech Acupuncture research group—wow, even the name of the organization sounds very Jedi—researchers used ultra-low-level violet laser stimulation of an acupuncture point, Du-20 (Baihui), and discovered that it had a direct effect on the subject's heart rate. A 405nm wavelength laser beam at an output power of 1mW (a power rating is slightly higher than your usual laser pointer pens) was directed at Du-20 (Baihui, GV-20) of the laboratory subjects. The resulting effect was immediate—and it functioned like an on/off switch, with immediate reduction of the heart rate.

Given the controlled predictability of laser acupuncture stimulation on bodily function, another team of researchers from the Medical University of Graz, Austria and the Institute of Acupuncture and Moxibustion at the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences concluded that "low-level laser acupuncture can be used in clinical applications."
