First United Methodist Church of Glendale

On Friday, September 11, 2026, Pasadena-based choral ensemble voices/LA invites members of the Glendale, Pasadena, and greater Los Angeles communities to gather for Silence into Song: 2,977 Voices Remembered. This free evening of remembrance and reflection marks the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks with a live performance of Mozart’s Requiem. Presented in partnership with Glendale First United Methodist Church (GFUMC), the concert aligns with GFUMC’s mission to serve Los Angeles as a sanctuary of radical welcome, healing mind, body, and spirit across diverse communities.
The concert is free and open to the public. This tribute is made possible through generous underwriting from donors and patrons from our community. Voluntary contributions will benefit the Widows, Orphans &amp; Disabled Firefighter's Fund (<a href="https://www.wodff.org/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">www.wodff.org</a>), providing vital assistance to the families of first responders.
The concert will begin at 8:00 p.m. on September 11 at 134 N. Kenwood Street in Glendale, offering community members a space for remembrance, reflection, and connection through music. Performed with full orchestra and four guest soloists, the program honors the 2,977 lives lost with Mozart's masterpiece alongside select works dedicated to memory, solidarity, and hope. This performance carries forward a global tradition born on the first anniversary of 9/11, when musicians worldwide staged a rolling performance of Mozart’s Requiem across time zones. Twenty-four years later, voices/LA renews that international legacy of healing through choral music.
"Music provides a vocabulary for grief and hope when words fall short," says Dr. John Sutton, Artistic Director of voices/LA. "Gathering on this 25th anniversary allows us to transform shared silence into a collective song of remembrance and community resilience."

Founded by John Sutton following a landmark holiday performance at Walt Disney Concert Hall, voices/LA is becoming one of Southern California's premier auditioned choral ensembles. Composed of elite, auditioned vocalists drawn from five different counties across the Los Angeles metropolitan region, the ensemble acts as a powerful artistic bridge for the greater Southern California community. Guided by a mission to use the transformative power of music as a vehicle for healing and solidarity, voices/LA performs a diverse, challenging repertoire that addresses profound shared human experiences. In July 2026, voices/LA was hand-selected by Oscar-winning composer Howard Shore to perform his score for The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring in four sold-out concerts with the Pacific Symphony at the Peacock Theater. Entering its second season (2026–2027), voices/LA continues its mission of connection and healing through song. Dr. John Sutton is an acclaimed conductor, educator, and choral clinician recognized for his passionate leadership and innovative programming. As the Artistic Director of voices/LA, he has dedicated his career to fostering community through transformative musical performances that challenge, inspire, and heal. His extensive work with choral and orchestral ensembles throughout Southern California and across the globe has established him as a prominent force in the regional arts landscape of Los Angeles and Southern California.

Make art as a family at this one-hour weekly creative class where you will draw, paint, sketch and explore new materials and ideas with teaching artist JJ Jorgenson. Young artists ages 4+ are welcome with their families for these lively art sessions. Past classes include charcoal, watercolors, inks, colored pencils, botanical drawing and more. This is a great activity to connect as a family, make new friends and make memories along with your art. There is a new lesson every week. $10 per person, all materials are provided.
