CAT-atonic part 2

My veterinarian once told me that outside cats may live just 3 years or so (cars, coyotes, and the like increase the mortality rate). There are notable exceptions. One such exception was a "neighborhood" cat that we knew as "Cookie". She was an outdoor cat with no "official" owner. Anecdotal evidence portrayed her as being 20 years old. She looked to be at least that old. Our family and nearby neighbors on Avenues 40 and 41 would always be sure that she had food available. We all kept an eye out for her health and welfare. Two years ago, she suffered a trauma to her right front paw, some type of crushing injury. It was most assuredly not a pretty sight! I suspected this might be the end for her, but... not so! After rushing her to the local animal clinic, she got the treatment she needed. Within the week she was back in her routine of eating, sleeping and wandering the neighborhood. I just have to marvel at how tough she was, tough as nails one might say. Sadly, she passed of natural causes last year, after a long life. I'm pretty sure it was a good life. We all miss the old girl!
