CHURCH OF THE ANGELS CELEBRATES 125 YEARS OF WEDDINGS WITH WEDDING VOW RENEWAL CEREMONY

The Tournament of Roses isn’t the only Pasadena institution celebrating its 125th anniversary this year. The beautiful little Church of the Angels was consecrated on St. Michael and All Angels Day, September 29, 1889. Throughout those 125 years, couples have chosen this church for
their wedding venue. On Saturday, June 21st at 2:00 p.m., dozens of
those couples will gather at the church to renew their wedding vows, and mingle
at a reception following the ceremony.  Some brides will wear their wedding gowns, and
photos of weddings through the years will be on display.

It’s not difficult to see why the church has been a popular
place for weddings since the beginning. The church looks like a quaint English village church because it was patterned after one in, Surrey, England. Its red brick interior walls
and redwood ceiling, which have mellowed through the years to give a soft
warmth, enclose a space that feels open and soaring, yet intimate. The magnificent
memorial window that occupies the entire wall behind the altar fills the church
with vivid, glowing color during the day. (Designed and executed in London, the
window is regarded as one of the finest examples of stained glass in America). The
church’s 1889 Roosevelt organ is one of the few such instruments that is still used in
the original hall for which it was built. As part of the 125th
anniversary celebration, the organ has been completely restored by Manuel
Rosales, the premier organ builder in California, who also built the organ in
Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles.

Couples who were married at Church of the Angels in 2014 join a legacy that
stretches back 125 years – choosing this beautiful, historic place filled with
warm memories and soft light. For ;more information on the church's history, please see www.coa-pasadena.org. Please e-mail churchoftheangels125th@gmail.com with any questions.
