Martin Espino  is of Indigenous Yaqui and Tepehuano ancestry.  He began music at age 11, and eventually became a very well rounded musician, in that he was first, "street trained"(playing by ear), then "classically trained" and finally, "folklore/indigena trained"!

He has been teaching adults and children since age 13 and has been a professional musician since 1968.  He has studied his ancient Mexican heritage and its musical practices since 1975.

Martin began building instruments in 1990 and since then has made over 50,000. His instruments can be found in museums, schools and performing arts centers!

He is an expert in working with bamboo and gourd! In 1980 he pioneered what is called "Interactive  Performance", an innovative interactive program illuminating the heritage of the ancient Americas,
especially Mexico, which is how he teaches and performs today.

Currently he tours nationally and internationally as well as
teaches, lectures, records, builds instruments and composes.
