Feeding Your Demons - SFS Documentary Premiere with Lama Tsultrim Allione (Eagle Rock)

The West Coast Premiere of the documentary “Feeding Your Demons - The Life and Teachings of Lama Tsultrim Allione” by Dutch filmmaker Jaap Verhoeven.  The screening will be followed by a Q&A with Lama Tsultrim. 

This documentary explores the dramatic journey of one of the women pioneers in Buddhism in the West. The film tracks Lama Tsultrim's early life growing up in New Hampshire, traveling to India at the age of 19, her ordination at 22 in 1970 by His Holiness 16th Karmapa as the first American Tibetan Buddhist nun, and her years in the Himalayas before returning her vows and becoming the mother of three. The film tracks her challenging and sometimes heartbreaking journey leading to the development of the national best-seller "Feeding Your Demons". It includes shots from Tibet of her recognition as an emanation of Machig Labdrön (the great 11th century woman teacher who founded the Chöd lineage), as well as footage from the Indian Himalayas, where she returns to the places and people from her life as a Buddhist nun 30 years earlier and where His Holiness 17th Gyalwang Karmapa bestowed the Chöd empowerment of Machig Labdrön.

Lama Tsultrim Allione, author and international teacher, is the founder and spiritual director of Tara Mandala. In 2009, Lama Tsultrim was selected by an esteemed committee of Buddhist scholars and practitioners to receive the International Outstanding Women in Buddhism Award given in Bangkok, Thailand.
