St. Leon Armenian Cathedral’s Annual Ecumenical Service on Dec. 2

For nearly 110 years, the hospital has provided continuous mission-minded healthcare to the community

The annual Ecumenical Service to be held at 7 PM on Tuesday, December 2, at St. Leon Armenian Cathedral http://www.armenianchurchcathedral.com will be dedicated to Glendale Adventist Medical Center (GAMC) in celebration of the hospital’s 110th upcoming anniversary next year 2015.

The Ecumenical service and ceremony will include many Christian denominations and will focus on prayer, faith-building and unity of purpose. The Ecumenical Service, an established tradition of the Western Diocese is an interdenominational initiative aimed at greater Christian interfaith dialogue.

His Eminence Archbishop Hovan Derderian of St. Leon Armenian Cathedral will preside over the special event honoring the hospital for its service to the community since 1905. The hospital works diligently to infuse daily activities with its mission.

“In years to come, the Glendale Sanitarium and hospital will be in the middle of a great residential section as populous as all of Glendale today, and yet it will be forever on a hill; peaceful, serene, an institution of service and mercy to a fast-moving world below,” said Administrator C.E. Kimlin, GAMC Administrator when he was speaking at a dedication service, March 24, 1924.

“Inspired by that same spirit, today we continue to blend powerful, technologically advanced medical science with compassion and a Christ-centered approach when treating our patients. We want to spread the word about the link between health, lifestyle decisions and the healing ministry of Jesus. Sharing God’s love with our community through providing healing and wellness for the whole person, will never change,” said Roberts.

The hospital’s mission, and that of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, has been to improve the health of the communities being served.
