Find out what's happening in Eagle Rockfor free with the latest updates from Patch.
WHAT: The
general public is invited to tour the Mega
HeartTM, the world’s first
inflatable heart designed as an educational, walk-through exhibit that
demonstrates the effects of heart disease and ways to prevent and treat
it. It will be on display at the Glendale Galleria on Sunday, June 1,
from 11 AM to 4 PM. Visitors can tour the giant replica of the
life-sustaining human organ. During
the tour, they will learn about cardiovascular functions, observe examples or
various types of heart disease and read about the latest medical treatments for
heart problems. They will also learn about Glendale Adventist Medical
Center’s New Heart and Vascular Institute Clinic.
The Mega HeartTM is a 12-foot
tall, 21-foot long, 15-foot wide replica of the human heart that provides
visitors with a close-up view of healthy and diseased tissue, artificial valves
and a stent, as well as the damage caused by a heart attack. Visitors enter the
exhibit through the largest vein that feeds the heart, the superior vena cava,
and exit through the largest artery that leaves the heart, the aorta.
WHY: Heart
disease causes the greatest number of deaths in our society but may be
prevented through education and proper diet and exercise.
Cardiologist on staff at Glendale Adventist Medical Center will be on
hand throughout the display to answer questions from visitors.
WHERE: Glendale Galleria (Near the JC Penny entrance
across the street from the Americana) 100
W Broadway #700, Glendale, CA 91210
TIME: 11 AM – 4 PM
NOTE: The MEGA Heart has been featured on "The Dr. Oz Show" and the "The Doctors" TV Show, among other venues.
