Kebabs on the Sidewalk

As the sun set Tuesday, a barbecue came alive outside the Fiesta Sa Barrio Filipino Restaurant.

Walk south along Eagle Rock Boulevard, past York, around sunset, and you will see smoke rising into the sky—or floating across the street—from a barbecue on the sidewalk. Towering in the background will be a large sign inviting passersby to the Fiesta Sa Barrio Filipino Restaurant, which serves authentic food from the Philippines in a laid-back, romantic setting.

Dinner at the eatery hadn't quite begun when at 6 p.m.—and the barbecuing didn't appear to be visible to most motorists driving north on Eagle Rock Boulevard at the time because a DWP crew was busy paving the road following repairs on a ruptured water pipe.

Nearby, a Rambo's Tacos food truck waited for customers as well—and further up the boulevard, near the York crossing, about two-dozen customers lined up along the sidewalk to place orders at yet another food truck.
