Safety Tips for the Season

The later months of the year are some of the most festive and actively intense; they are also the months that we should take stock of home safety issues.

Hello Home Owners!

Making a List
The later months of the year are some of the most festive and actively intense; they are also the months that we should take stock of home safety issues.

Checking it Twice
Be sure to clean dried leaves from rain gutters and gutter down spouts. The rains are coming, so remove wind blown leaves built up around area drains in your yard, and clean the historical path of travel for water flow on your property.

Oh, Ho-Ho
If you have a fireplace, don't forget to have the chimney cleaned. Creosote build-up can be a fire hazard.

Up on the Rooftop
It's also the time of year that we bring out our holiday yard decorations, and some yards are really decorated! When connecting decorations to your electrical power source, use electrical cords designed for the exterior - not the light weight interior extension cords. Don't overload the electrical circuit supplying the power source, and most importantly remember that decoration lights can get hot, so keep decoration lights away from combustible materials.

Deck the Halls

The same safety considerations should be applied to your home's interior holiday decorations. One universal occurrence is connecting several light weight extension cords together to maximize it's length - don't do it. Instead, try to arrange your decorations to utilize the closet power source.  Should you require the need for a greater distance from the power source to power your decorations, use an electrical extension cord designed to carry a heavier electrical load.

Decorations are such delightful in presenting this festive and merry time of the year. Use them wisely and most importantly use them as they are designed to be used.

Best Wishes to you and yours for a Happy and Safe Holiday Season!
