This Kid Will Make You Do a Double Take

Tennis captain, singer, actor and all-round role model, Aaron Alcaraz has a lot of mojo.

This week’s Whiz Kid of the Week is a top-notch junior at . He's a tennis player, singer, actor and problem-solver.

  • Whiz Kid's Name/Age: Aaron Alcaraz, 16.
  • Whiz Kid's School/Church/Community Center: Eagle Rock High School.
  • Whiz Kid's Accomplishment: Kevin is one of the two captains of the Eagle Rock High tennis team.
  • Whiz Kid's Key to Awesomeness: As co-captain of Eagle Rock High School's tennis team, he is a major role-model teen both on and off the court.
  • Whiz Kid's Accomplishment: Alcaraz, who has played tennis for four years, is the Number One doubles on the tennis team. He and his doubles partner are ranked among the top eight doubles teams in Los Angeles. He likes tennis because, "even in doubles, you're pretty much on your own figuring out what you need to do to win." This requires constant "problem solving," which, he says, appeals to him.
  • Bonus Whiz Kid Info: Alcaraz's problem-solving extends to academics. He holds a 4.5-weighted GPA. He is also involved in philanthropy and is an actor and singer who regularly participates in musical theater and choir. Eagle Rock High tennis coach and counselor Eric Jacobson calls Alcaraz "the best male singer at ERHS," as well as "the nicest guy you'll meet."
