• DIVE BAR to Make World Premiere at CASA 0101 Theater (broadwayworld.com) — East Los Angeles theater lovers can catch the world premiere of DIVE BAR at CASA 0101 in nearby Boyle Heights from October 9 to November 1, with an East L.A. resident on the production team. The suspenseful, Twilight Zone–inspired play unfolds inside a neighborhood bar after a shooting, promising tense twists during weekend performances and a discounted preview on October 8.
• Armed Woman Critically Injured When Deputies Return Fire In Cudahy (mynewsla.com) — Deputies from the East Los Angeles Sheriff's Station responded before dawn Monday to a domestic dispute in nearby Cudahy, where a woman allegedly shot two people, including a girl, before deputies returned fire. The suspect and victims were hospitalized in stable condition, and multiple oversight bodies will now review whether the deputies' actions in the shooting were lawful.
• Case Closed Audio Documentary Examines Life, Career, and Death of Journalist Rubén Salazar Through Archival Recordings (usc.edu) — USC Libraries have released a new audio documentary revisiting journalist Rubén Salazar's life and his 1970 killing after covering the National Chicano Moratorium in East Los Angeles. Using archival recordings and sheriff's department files, the project reexamines unanswered questions around his death while highlighting his impact on Mexican American communities and California journalism.
