1 East Palo Alto Suspect Sought In Shooting; 2 Nabbed

At large is Jose De Jesus Sanchez for the shooting of a male, 19, in front of his Belmont home, police said. One suspect cuffed is EPA minor

BELMONT, CA – Two suspects are in custody and one is wanted for last week's shooting of a man, 19, in front of his Belmont home, according to authorities.

The Belmont Police Department identified the trio in the shooting, possibly related to a drug deal, that occurred Wednesday shortly before 5 p.m.on the 1600 block of Chula Vista Avenue in Belmont, Sgt. Pete Lotti said.

Arrested were a 17-year-old male from Menlo Park and Daniel Martinez, 18 of East Palo Alto, he said. Police are seeking Jose De Jesus Sanchez, 19 of East Palo Alto.

"It is believed that the shooting stemmed from a narcotic transaction," Lotti said.

The victim was outside of his house at about 4:50 p.m. when an SUV, with three people inside, approached. One of the SUV's occupants then shot at the victim once, striking him in the upper body, police said.

The three fled in the SUV, described as being dark-colored with the a possible gray interior, which was last seen heading south on Alameda de las Pulgas toward San Carlos.

The victim suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and is recovering, the agency said.

Police said anyone who sees Sanchez (pictured above) should not approach him but should dial 911. Anyone knowing his whereabouts or with information regarding the incident can call the Belmont police at 650-595-7400 or leave an anonymous tip at 650-598-3000.
