Today's riddle: What has 2 arms and a neck but no head? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. East Palo Alto pushes ahead with new parking permit program (paloaltoonline.com) — East Palo Alto is moving forward with a long-debated residential parking permit program, hiring a consultant for a citywide parking study that will shape rules, fees, and enforcement zones. Over the next year, the city will analyze crowded neighborhoods, gather community input, and return to the council with detailed recommendations before permits and any related fees take effect.
2. Volunteers take to the Palo Alto skies as they prepare for emergencies (paloaltoonline.com) — East Palo Alto residents and Mayor Webster Lincoln are closely watching Palo Alto Airport plans, worried about runway expansion and noise while also learning how the facility could aid disaster response. During a recent emergency training flight, Lincoln joined volunteer pilots to see firsthand how CalDART could deliver supplies if bridges or roads fail, underscoring both the airport's impacts and its potential benefits for nearby communities.
3. Former Bay Area restaurateur pivots to providing thousands of meals to people with food insecurity (kioncentralcoast.com) — An East Palo Alto nonprofit, Onyxx Village Connection, is highlighted for distributing over 30,000 prepared meals from Moonstar Charitable Organization to unhoused neighbors last year. The story follows former restaurateur Daisy Li's shift from running Moonstar Buffet to operating a large-scale nonprofit kitchen and an upcoming food pantry supporting food-insecure residents across San Mateo and nearby counties.
4. Arrest made in series of bicycle thefts from Caltrain (eastbaytimes.com) — A 28-year-old man from East Palo Alto was arrested Monday in Redwood City on suspicion of stealing bicycles from Caltrain cars in at least ten incidents since May. Deputies say video footage helped identify the suspect, who was found at a Hayward hotel and booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility as Caltrain and law enforcement work to curb bike thefts on the rail line.
