• Man Dies After Assault In SMC, Suspect Faces Manslaughter Charge: Police (patch.com) — East Palo Alto police say a 53-year-old city resident has been charged with involuntary manslaughter after a 52-year-old Menlo Park man he allegedly assaulted on University Avenue later died at Stanford Hospital. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are asking anyone with information to contact the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office as the victim's family seeks community support through a fundraiser.
• East Palo Alto plants seeds for a future urban forest (rwcpulse.com) — East Palo Alto is pushing ahead with an ambitious Urban Forest Master Plan that aims to boost tree canopy from about 13.5% to 20% by 2062 and 30% by 2122. Local leaders, schools, nonprofits and residents are planting hundreds of trees each year along Highway 101, in parks, and in backyards to cool neighborhoods, cut pollution, and address long-standing inequities in green space.
