MENLO PARK, CA — A 20-year-old East Palo Alto man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for a 2022 shooting outside a convenience store near the Menlo Park Caltrain station, according to The Almanac.
Sosefo Ahofono received the sentence Oct. 20 after pleading no contest to attempted murder and a firearm-related charge in August, the news outlet reported.
San Mateo County Superior Court Judge Jeffrey Jackson denied Ahofono probation and imposed a $370 fine in addition to his prison sentence.
The shooting occurred Aug. 21, 2022, in the parking lot of a 7-Eleven near Oak Grove Avenue and Alma Street, across from the Menlo Park Caltrain station.
According to a case summary from the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office cited by The Almanac, Ahofono fired 16 rounds from a rifle into a vehicle occupied by someone with whom he had a previous dispute.
One person was injured in the shooting, and Ahofono drove away afterward.
Ahofono entered his no-contest plea Aug. 31, more than four years after the shooting.
The Almanac reported that neither Ahofono's attorney, Jonathan McDougall, nor San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe responded to requests for comment.
