East PA Pair Cuffed In Ohio For San Mateo Shooting

SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA – Two East Palo Alto residents were arrested today in Ohio on suspicion of attempted murder in connection with a shooting that left a person injured last month in San Mateo, according to police.

The shooting occurred around 7:30 p.m. on July 18 in the 900 block of South Delaware Street.

The victim was transported to a hospital with gunshot wounds that were not thought to be life-threatening.

Police served search warrants in East Palo Alto and Jefferson Township, Ohio, this morning and arrested 32-year-old Leonardo Lopez and 39-year-old Maria Hernandez.

Lopez was arrested on suspicion of attempted homicide, assault with a firearm, shooting at an inhabited dwelling, being a felon in possession of a firearm and burglary.

Hernandez was arrested on suspicion of attempted homicide, assault with a firearm, shooting at an inhabited dwelling, burglary and being an accessory to the crime.

Police thanked the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office Gang Intelligence Unit, North Central Regional SWAT and the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office in Ohio.
