3rd Sunday of every Month.

Next lecture: July 15th 6pm-9pm
$25 per person. $40 per couple

Any trainer  will tell you that the basics for ALL training starts with establishing the groundwork of pack structure at home. If your dog doesn't regard you as the "leader", training can become a lot more difficult and all sorts of behavioral problems can arise.  Simply put, dog ownership can be a whole lot easier if your dog feels comfortable in his role in the pack. If he doesn't know where he stands, he becomes confused, fearful, dis-obedient, un-trusting and sometimes dominant. Becoming pack leader isn't as hard as some might think. There are clear cut rules that dogs use to communicate with each other that help to establish their role in the pack. Your dog is constantly communicating with you via subtle body signals which most humans fail to interpret correctly.  This course will teach you the fundamentals of the canine "language" so you can immediately begin to effectively communicate with your dog. When you learn to work with nature and become your own dog  "whisperer" the results can be astounding.

This LEADERSHIP seminar is a 3 hour course that will teach you the "house rules" of living with a canine. Simply by changing a few things at home, you not only solve most dog behavioral problems but you can also prevent future problems from developing. This class is not only a must for those living with problem dogs, but it is also highly recommended for all first-time dog owners,  dog walkers, rescue volunteers, dog foster families and anyone who simply wishes to learn how to speak "dog"!

In this 3 hour seminar you will learn how to prevent and cure:

  • Aggression
  • Leash Pulling
  • Over-excitement
  • Destructive Behavior
  • Separation Anxiety
  • Phobias, Fears and Anxiety
  • Excessive Barking
  • Running away
  • "selective hearing"
  • And most other problems

Benefits of assuming the Alpha role:

  • A more confident dog
  • A more confident owner
  • Improved dog/owner "bond"
  • A strong foundation for training
  • A well behaved and HAPPY dog!

Learn to work with the natural instincts of your dog, understand the basics of canine ethology, make it a lifetime practice and have a healthy, balanced relationship with a confident & happy dog!

This course is taught by Tanya Yarbrough of URBAN DOG STAR and is hosted at BlueCollar.

Every 3rd Sunday of every month. 6-9pm. $25 per person. $40 per couple.

BASIC OBEDIENCE

instructor: Tanya Yarbrough

Six week course $160. 1 hour per week.

Next Thursday course starts July 19th 6:00pm to 7:pm

Next Saturday course starts July 21st @ 1:30pm to 2:30pm

This is a basic obedience class that uses the CLICKER METHOD of training to teach the commands: Focus, Sit, Stay, Down, Place and Come. You will also learn to walk your dog without pulling. This class is fun, positive and reward-based. We welcome all vaccinated dogs who are at least 14 weeks of age. Although we do not focus on problem-solving in our basic classes you will have ample time before and after class to discuss your concerns with the instructor.  If your dog already knows the basic commands but is unwilling to perform them under distraction we recommend the "Street Obedience" class below. We encourage you to bring a partner or family member.

BASIC OBEDIENCE and STREET OBEDIENCE are taught by Tanya Yarbrough a canine behaviorist and dog trainer who has over 12 years hands-on experience working with canines. In addition to training dogs and people, Tanya also trains and handles dogs for film, TV and commercials and teaches courses on training dogs for camera work. Tanya's style and approach to training are based on leadership and pack structure. Tanya holds seminars and lectures on canine bahavior throughout Los Angeles. BlueCollar hosts her Pack Leadership seminar on the 3rd Sunday of every month.

Street Obedience

6 week course. 1 hour per week. $160 course fee.

Instructor: Tanya Yarbrough

Next available class:  Saturday July 21st from 12pm - 1pm

STREET OBEDIENCE is an INTERMEDIATE obedience class and is for dogs who already perform the basic commands (focus, sit, stay, down, come) and are ready to take their training into an environment of heavy distraction.....THE REAL WORLD.  This class focuses on "the pack walk" and the classroom is the STREET. The mission is to master your dogs (and your own) distractions, urges and stresses. The goal is to make your dog into a "take anywhere" type of dog. The reward is more freedom for both you and your dog.

This is a mixed method class involving the use of treat rewards, lavish praise and leash-corrections. All dogs will be evaluated for eligibility at the first class. For this class you will need a treat bag, high-value treats,  a six foot standard leash, a choke chain, pinch collar or flat collar, and a phone book wrapped in duct tape (to teach "place"). No harnesses, head-collars, flexible leashes or zip lines. You may bring a clicker if you use one (or want to learn to use one).  Materials/tools will be further discussed at the first class. Each dog can have 1 or 2 handlers but no more than 1 dog per person. Class size is limited to 8 dogs per class.

The class is taught by Tanya Yarbrough a canine behaviorist and dog trainer who has over 12 years hands-on experience working with canines. In addition to training dogs and people, Tanya also trains and handles dogs for film, TV and commercials and teaches courses on training dogs for camera work.

THE FIRST STREET OBEDIENCE CLASS WILL MEET AT BLUECOLLAR (1533 ECHO PARK AVE, LA 90026). Each class thereafter will meet at a separate location in the vicinity of Echo Park.

FOR THIS CLASS YOU WILL NEED: A six foot leash, a collar of your choice (no harnesses), a easy-open, quick-draw treat bag, a minimum of 80 pea-sized, high value, soft treats and a clicker if you use one or would like to learn. You will also need a duct-taped phone book (or similarly sized and weighted object) for teaching "place".

HEELING WORKSHOP

Single two-hour workshop $75

Instructor: Tanya Yarbrough

Next workshop:

Sunday August 5th 11am-1pm

Got a dog that refuses to heel? Do you dread your walks? Is your dog leash reactive or leash aggressive towards other dogs? Does your dog fence fight on the walk? Do you arms and shoulders hurt? If so, you might consider our HEELING WORKSHOP. This is a single, two-hour, intensive class all about "heeling". In two hours you will learn how to get your dog to ignore distractions, focus on you and "follow". You will also learn the techniques necessary to put an end to leash-reactive behaviors, and leash-aggression.  Please note: This class involves the use of corrections.

This class will meet at BlueCollar. Please arrive 15 minutes early to discuss equipment with the instructor.

Hurry and reserve your spot now! This class is limited to six dogs.
