Area Councilman Mitch O'Farrell Meets with Toronto Mayor Rob Ford

Ford's trip to City Hall included a five-minute visit with Councilman Mitch O'Farrell, who represents Echo Park and Silver Lake.

Toronto Mayor Rob Ford, who was in town to appear on a late-night talk show and ostensibly to promote his city to the film industry, stopped by Los Angeles City Hall Monday.

Ford became widely known beyond his city last year when a cell phone video surfaced of him apparently smoking crack cocaine, and he later admitted smoking crack "probably in one of my drunken stupors."

He has been making Twitter posts about his trip to Los Angeles, gladly posing for photos with Angelenos who recognize him from news reports about the scandal.

Ford's trip to City Hall included a five-minute visit with Councilman Mitch O'Farrell, during which the film production issues never came up, according to O'Farrell spokesman Tony Arranaga. O'Farrell sits on a council committee aimed preventing television and film production companies from being drawn away to other cities, including Toronto.

During their chat, Ford did promote his appearance tonight on "Jimmy Kimmel Live," Arranaga said.

Ford also went by Councilman Tom LaBonge's office.

Hearing that Ford was in his lobby, LaBonge said he went out to greet him and wasted little time before discussing Ford's drug use.

"I talked to him about the importance of being a leader and being clean ... and to not have a demon like that," LaBonge said.

The two also bonded over football, according to both LaBonge and Ford, who tweeted a picture of them together.

Ford also sat in briefly during the council's Budget and Finance Committee meeting.

The Toronto mayor's City Hall visit did not include a visit with his Los Angeles counterpart, Eric Garcetti, who is in Mexico City on a trade mission.
