Art Competition Accepting Entries From Students

Is your kid a budding artist? They could win Blick premium art supplies and bragging rights in a poster competition sponsored by Mayor Villaraigosa.

If your kid is handy with a paintbrush, pencil or chalk, have them take a crack at a poster competition in honor of Latino Heritage Month. It's sponsored by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and open to all students in grades K-12 within Los Angeles County.

Entries should be inspired by the contest theme: "Celebrating a Culture of Hope and Progress" and focus around one or all of the following: Latino leadership, Latino contributions and/or Latino progress.

Here are the guidelines:

  • The artwork must be original
  • Accepted mediums are watercolor, acrylic, oil, pen, pencil, chalk or marker on paper, canvas or wood
  • Art must be two-dimensional
  • The poster can't exceed 18" by 24"
  • Entrants must sign the bottom right corner of their art
  • Only one entry is allowed per student

  • The judges will focus on originality, creativity and interpretation of the theme.
  • There will be six divisions by grade, and a first, second and third grade winner in each.
  • Winners will receive Blick premium art supplies.

  1. Deadline for entries is Friday Sept. 16 at 6:00 p.m., though early submissions are encouraged.
  2. Type up a sheet of paper with the following info and attach it to the back of the original work:
    • First and last name
    • Grade level
    • Home mailing address
    • Telephone number
    • School or organization's name and address
    • Teacher's full name, phone number and email address
    • Title of the work, medium(s) used
    • A sentence about the artist's inspiration or a description of the work
