Blog: AD 51 Candidate Jimmy Gomez gains momentum

Yesterday, Senator Kevin De Leon announced his endorsement of Jimmy Gomez’s candidacy for the 51st Assembly District.

“I am proud to endorse Jimmy Gomez for State Assembly,” said Senator De Leon. “As the former Assemblymember and current State Senator to the communities of the new 51st Assembly District, this area is near and dear to my heart. The next Assemblymember needs to be someone who has the best interest of the district in mind. Someone who reflects the diverse demographics that make up the constituency of the district and that will fight for them in Sacramento. That person is Jimmy Gomez.”

As Senator and previous Assemblymember, Kevin De Leon has represented or currently represents the communities of Mt. Washington, Highland Park, Echo Park, Elysian Park, Lincoln Heights, El Sereno, Cypress Park and Silver Lake in the new 51st Assembly District.

“Senator De Leon has been a great state representative for the Northeast Communities,” said Gomez. “I am honored to be endorsed by him. I look forward to working with him in Sacramento to bring more resources to the 51st Assembly District.”

With Election Day right around the corner, Senator De Leon’s endorsement adds to Gomez’s momentum. He has also earned the support of the California Democratic Party, Sierra Club, LA County Federation of Labor, Los Angeles City Councilmembers Eric Garcetti and Ed Reyes and the United Teachers of Los Angeles. Jimmy Gomez is currently a director for United Nurses Association of California/Union of Health Care Professionals, AFL-CIO and an instructor at Los Angeles Trade Tech. He lives in Echo Park with his wife Mary.
