Chapter 2: Always on the Run--Countdown to the LA Marathon

scaling back the mileage, adding on the mental preparation. and pasta. this marathon life is very european.

Training week looks great.  Low mileage, easy times.  Oh yeah, except for that Sunday run of 26.2 miles.  That's circled on the calendar.  The last few days before a marathon is vaccum living.

You will not get in any better shape than you are in and the shoes/shirt/shorts you plan to run in are as broken in as they can be before race day. It's an odd waiting game where the only thing to do is think about the race, remind yourself of your pace and list all the things you'll eat Sunday night.

When it comes to meals, this marathon life is very European.  Daily visits to the market.  Fresh, small portions.  I'm ready to eat like an American when this is over: eating take out from non-recycleable containers in front of the TV.  Yeah!

That was my big plan over my four-mile run this morning.  That and praying the rain on Sunday won't be as bad as people are saying.  I'm an East Coast dude so I've run in the rain plenty of times but 26.2 miles?  That's a bit much.  Off to stretch and do an no-rain dance.
