Community Corner

Community Update

After an early morning of mimosas and lox, I attended the
Echo Park Lake grand reopening.  Along
with my husband and my neighbors (who have all lived in the same craftsman-style
house turned three-plex on West Kensington for over ten years) we listened as
our Mayor-Elect Eric Garcetti and several other city dignitaries opened the day
with speeches and ribbon cutting, which included Chinese dragons and drums.

As we stepped onto the grounds of the lake, together with
hundreds of other Echo Park dwellers, it occurred to me how much the community
of Echo Park really is its’
lake.  We exercise our dogs and play with
our children on that lake.  We take early
morning power walks and late night romantic strolls.  We capture beautiful pictures of our Downtown
LA with the fountain in the forefront and we admire the Lady of the Lake statue
as she protects the waters and all of the community’s inhabitants.

Two years have gone by while we watched green tarps, chain-length
fences, yellow machines and yellow-hat workers drudge, clean, landscape,
purify, and develop our most treasured lake.
Our beloved Lotus blossoms are back.
We have the excitement of many more festivals, strolls and laughter around
the grand curves of the waters to come.  We
have beautiful mornings and lazy nights to look forward to.

And to you, Mayor-Elect Garcetti, we give our thanks.  For championing your community and
Proposition O.  For being there this
morning and for being a nice guy.  Your
community is proud to throw our support behind you and we look forward to the
next several terms of your office.
