New Documentary Film Takes On the Student Loan Debt Crisis

LOS ANGELES, CA  -- December 3, 2013 -- Anyone who has ever thought about higher education knows -- the cost of college is daunting and not something that your average American can afford. For a country that prides itself on education and relies on it for a healthy economy, the current system has reached a breaking point.

Now, a new documentary addresses this crisis head-on in a short film, which has released its first trailer, found on http://educaution101.com.  Announcement of its first screening is scheduled to be at the USC Norris Cinema Theater in Los Angeles in January, 2014.

eduCAUTION highlights the experiences of everyday Americans struggling with the financial burdens of pursuing a higher education. After exploring its roots and causes, eduCAUTION offers solutions to solving this crisis while emphasizing the importance of affordability, efficiency, and innovation in our educational system.

 

Featured in the film are such notable experts as Congresswoman Karen Bass (D-CA), Former Congressman Hansen Clarke (D-MI), Robert Applebaum of the Student Debt Crisis and Dr. Eric Hanushek of Stanford University, among others.

 

The 20-minute documentary, which provides a look into this threat to American socioeconomic prosperity and security, is directed and produced by David Esfeh, produced by Ben Bhatti with Ryan Griswold as Director of Photography and other crew manned by film students at University of Southern California. This is Esfeh’s second short film (his first was 2012’s The Weekly). Esfeh has a B.A. from UCLA, a Law Degree from SMU and is now pursuing his MFA in Film Production at USC School of Cinematic Arts. He has stated that he “believes in the power of film as a force for promoting positive change in the world".
