Free Concert - Los Angeles New Music Ensemble - Voices of Change

Please join us for a free concert at the Edendale Branch Library this Saturday, June 1st, 2 p.m.

The Los Angeles New Music Ensemble with perform Voices of Change:

Shostakovich | Quartet no. 8, patrick conlon | mirror sermon, david drexler | forgotten at dawn..., joseph eidson | miniboss, jon brenner | quartet no. 1

The Los Angeles New Music Ensemble’s summer’s program Voices of Change pairs the winners of the LANME Quartet Commissioning contest with composer-in-residence Patrick Conlon’s Mirror Sermon and a re-orchestration of Shostakovich’s seminal String Quartet No. 8. Created by Music Director Dr. Christina Giacona, Voices of Change represents the growth of a new genre of chamber music for flute, clarinet, violin, and cello. Shostakovich’s quartets are the scions of a family of works for string quartet that span centuries and touch on every element of the human experience. Conlon’s Mirror Sermon, inspired by anti-apartheid hero and activist Dennis Brutus’s poem of the same name, delves for the same depth of emotion.
