Free Paper Shredding: Shred Away Identity Theft for Children and Adults

Wednesday, April 22 10am-1pm Water and Power Community Credit Union 1053 W. Sunset Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90012

Water and Power Community Credit Union (WPCCU) will host a free environmentally friendly paper shredding event for the public at its Sunset branch.

Identity theft has been on the rise for the past 14 years and adults are not the only ones falling victim to this crime. According to the Identity Theft Assistance Center, one in 40 families with children under 18 has had at least one child’s personal information compromised. A child’s social security number can be used by identity thieves to open lines of credit, order utility services, rent property and for tax fraud. Shredding sensitive and confidential documents is an easy way for consumers to protect themselves from identity theft. WPCCU invites the community to bring boxes of paper clutter to be securely shredded and then recycled.

In honor of National Credit Union Youth Month, attendees will learn about the credit union’s free resources that help members teach children about responsible financial habits.

Attendees can bring up to five boxes or bags of paperwork, including bank and financial statements, receipts, tax records, school records and any sensitive documents, for easy, safe and secure shredding. We will also accept computers, monitors, telephones, cell phones and printers for environmentally friendly disposal. Giveaways will include eco-friendly grocery tote bags, while supplies last.
