Geronimo Getty: Five Holiday Things in L.A.
Aaron Kyle's newly minted Echo Park outfit, Geronimo Getty, is gigging this Thursday at 1642. As such, I asked the bandleader / songwriter to share with us some of his favorite Los Angeles holiday traditions.

Aaron Kyle's newly minted Echo Park outfit, Geronimo Getty, is gigging this Thursday at . As such, I asked the bandleader/songwriter to share with us some of his favorite Los Angeles holiday traditions. AK in his own words, below.
1. Soup from --When it starts to get cold (60 or below), I like to eat soup. I think Taix makes the best soup in and around Echo Park hands down. They're French onion soup is super-gooey with cheese and rich with onions. I like to go on Friday's to get the clam chowder. Sometimes I get two orders and save one for the next day. Their pea and minestrone soups are awesome as well. All of their soups (sans clam chowder) are veggie friendly.
2. --I (like many folks) enjoy the warmth from a good beer. My neighborhood bar is 1642. There's a lack of pretension, and it always feels warm. The staff is super friendly and they've created an inviting space to hang your coat and have a good beer.
3. The Griffith Park Light show--Every year they put up these extravagant Xmas lights in Griffith Park. You can park and walk in. They are taking this year off, but hopefully it'll be up next year.
4. -Go see a local show and have some of Brian's (bartender/manager) homemade hot buttered rum. Brian makes a batch of this every year, and it's awesome. You don't want to know what's in it (because it's not good for you), but it's really tasty and will warm you up on a winter night.
5. Xmas Parties! I love that everyone we know has Xmas parties in or around the neighborhood. We had a great party last year, and all of our friends helped us make ornaments for the Xmas tree, and it was joyful. This year we're just going to other people's parties. I always eat and drink too much, but it's nice to see all of my friends before they leave for the holiday.
