LGBTQ Latinas/os Breaking Barriers

Echo Park Branch Library celebrates Pride Month with this inspiring presentation on Wednesday, JUNE 8 at 6:00PM.

Latina/o pioneers have stood up to anti-LGBTQ bigotry for decades. Learn the inspiring stories of people like Silvia Rivera, a drag queen and leader of the 1969 Stonewall Riots in New York City; educator and Long Beach representative Dr. Robert Garcia; Chicana lesbian poet/playwright Cherrie Moraga who co-founded Kitchen Table Press that published writings by women of color; and more. This proud history will be brought up-to-date with the scoop on the young trans-gendered activists making headlines today.

Echo Park Library celebrates the contributions of Latino LGBTQ people and advocates for their/our visibility. We want to show the beautiful diversity of the LGBTQ community and make sure that no one’s history is forgotten. Everyone is welcome.
