Maria Elena Durazo, Executive Secretary - Treasurer, Los Angeles County Federation of Labor - AFL-CIO
Is Los Angeles losing its middle class? Nationally, mid-wage occupations accounted for 60% of the job losses during the recession but only 22% of recovery growth.
What innovative strategies is the AFL-CIO using to support the middle class?
What does this mean for LA's economic health?
Hear from Maria Elena Durazo, Executive Secretary - Treasurer, Los Angeles County Federation of Labor - AFL-CIO on "Who is Fighting for the Future of the Middle Class?" In California, the minimum wage of $8.00 per hour has not been raised since 2008, though LA County Federation of Labor estimates show that a single adult would need to earn around $13.00 per hour to support a modest standard of living locally. Durazo will discuss how unionized workforces must innovate and shift strategies to steady the unbalanced recovery.
