Committed Volunteers Announce Operation Project HOPE: Day of Service and Teacher/Student
Appreciation at Allesandro Elementary School
It has stood proud for over one hundred years – educating youth for over
a century. Now this school and its
grounds are about to get a day at the spa!
Recognizing that the Los Angeles Unified School District cannot do it
alone, a group of 18 leaders chose Allesandro Elementary School for a Day of
Service and Teacher/Student Appreciation.
Saturday, June 1, 2013, 8am-4pm over 300 volunteers and many neighbors
will converge at 2210 Riverside Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90039 to beautify the school grounds. Painting murals and positive affirmations,
landscaping, general painting and minor construction will keep children and
adults alike busy for hours! In
addition to transforming the school grounds, there will be a food, clothes and
book drive and local medical providers will be on hand to offer free health
screenings. Come join these committed
leaders in creating a positive and inspirational safe haven for hundreds of
young Los Angeles students and their teachers.
Food and refreshments will be made available for volunteers. Donations of painting and mural supplies,
landscaping supplies and tools, food, clothes and books are welcomed and
appreciated. We can use ladders, sweat
equity and monetary contributions too.
At Allesandro, 100% of the students qualify for the free lunch
program. For many, that is their only
meal of the day. A K-5 school located in
Elysian Valley, Silverlake and Atwater neighborhoods of Northeast Los Angeles,
Allesandro Elementary is home to an Early Childhood Developmental Center and a
SRLDP Pre-Kindergarten program and houses a 1-6 grade cooperative learning
magnet program.

About
volunteers – Volunteers believe they can make a difference in the world simply
because they are committed to doing so.
Out of their passion Operation Project HOPE (Helping Other People Everyday)
was born. These committed leaders have a
passion for helping people everywhere.
Their specific focus has been improving and inspiring youth’s lives
through one day projects called a “Day of Service.” The Day of Service is an organized community
event where people come together through volunteer support and donations to be
of service. The end result is always a
transformed school grounds and a grateful school community. In addition to beautifying the school
grounds, these committed
volunteers also solicit and provide the community non-parishable foods, gently warn clothes and free basic medical
screenings. In the end, the objective is to emphasize a
loving and inspiring environment for the children to thrive in and be proud of.
Getting
there - Take Metro Bus Line 96 (Downtown LA-Burbank Station Via Riverside
Dr-Griffith Park) to Riverside Drive/Riverside Terrace & Gleneden Street or
Metro Shuttle Line 603 (Grand Sta/LA Trade Tech) to Riverside Drive/Allesandro
Street.
Previous
Operation Project HOPE activities – In 2011 Operation Project HOPE transformed
the school grounds at Hooper Elementary School in South Los Angeles. With over 200 volunteers from 9 counties in
California, including people from Arizona and Nevada, volunteers painted
several large murals, painted hallways with positive affirmations, and even
memorialized a handprint of every child who participated from the school as a
reminder of their efforts. Free medical
information and gently warn clothes were also provided to Hooper families.
