Silver Lake Conservatory of Music (Group Photo)

The teachers came out to make it a "Motown" night at the Conservatory's recent fundraiser at El Cid.

The Silverlake Conservatory of Music is known for its big, high profile music bashes featuring names like Patty Smith and Ben Harper  as well as Conservatory co-founder Flea.

But on June 8 at El Cid, the conservatory kept it simple with a do-it-yourself night of dining and music called Petit Baloo.

Music was provided through part of the night by the actual teachers at the school, including co-founder and dean Keith Barry.  Look below for a complete list of group members.

Audience members of all ages clapped with the ensemble's  so-called "Motown" set--which sounded a lot like James Brown to me.

Fittingly, the jarocho group La Petite Fandango finished off the night.

The school's summer music camp kicks off July 5. It will be held at Micheltorena Elementary School.  Here's a link with  details.

The community choir and other classes are on hiatus until August.
