SIlver Lake Indie Kids Bubbling Under The Charts

Indie darlings Local Natives prepare their next step.

 

For all the local brouhaha about our very fertile indie-rock music scene, few of our acts that are born in these clubs and bars make it to a competitive national level. Worse, a lot of our bands get the cold shoulder from influential music markets strictly because of its connection to Los Angeles. Our artists can be viewed with suspicion with a simple description as “a new band from L.A.!”

Score one for the men next door who make up Local Natives, who quietly scored a surprisingly high 8.5 on Pitchfork with their debut LP.

They hit the road opening for reluctant Grammy superstars Arcade Fire and nabbed a member of the acclaimed New York City band The National to produce their upcoming follow-up LP, Hummingbird.

“Gorilla Manor”, their 2010 release, spent close to a year bubbling under the Billboard charts eventually landing in the bottom rung of the Top 200.

After a little hiatus building their own studio in their Silver Lake home, they’ve dropped a new song for you to listen to as they hit a winter jaunt overseas in support of Hummingbird.
