LOS ANGELES, CA — A 17-year-old boy died Thursday after being hit by a car in Echo Park. The boy was walking in a crosswalk when he was hit by a car, according to police.
The accident happened at the intersection of Riverside Drive and Newell Street, near the Golden State (5) Freeway, at about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday. The 44-year-old driver of a 2012 Toyota Camry was heading southbound on Riverside Drive when she crossed into the intersection, striking the teen, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. The woman told police the light was green for her when she struck the boy.
The boy was carried on the hood of the car for about 100 yards before the car stopped throwing him to the ground, police said. The driver and her passengers stayed at the scene and called paramedics. The Los Angeles Fire Department responded and took the victim to a hospital, where he died from his injuries, police said.

Investigators don't believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash and no arrests were made in connection with the tragedy.
