The Run Downhill Daughter Chautauqua returns to HM157 on May
29th for a very special show! In Vol. 6 – FOOD & the FARM, we examine the
ways in which we feed ourselves, and the challenges inherent within them. The
Daughter Chautauqua program combines music, literature, art and film, alongside
lecture and discussion, designed to bridge the gap between entertainment and
lifelong education.

At the center of the Daughter Chautauqua program is Run
Downhill’s folk-inspired, narrative-driven music performed masterfully by
musicians Colin Burgess, Nate LaPointe, Ken Lasaine, Tom Moose, and T.J. Troy.
We are very pleased to have Frank Fairfield joining us this month, and more
guest artists will be announced throughout the month!

A very special feature of this month’s show is a phone-in
conversation with Washington State horticulturalist Jake Gutzwiler; Jake is
part of a multi-generational family of apple and cherry orchardists from Wenatchee,
WA. In a live broadcast phone interview, we’ll talk with Jake about current
issues surrounding the food and farming industry.

Run Downhill’s music is cross-contextualized with comic book
art and narrative: this month’s show will feature the premiere of the 4th
and final chapter of Run Downhill’s latest album offering, SPURS #1. Written by
resident storyteller John Castlerock, and illustrated by Quinn Salazar, these
gritty stories of loss and redemption come to life in video form, accompanied
live by Run Downhill’s dark and lingering melodies.

Simultaneously classic and innovative, the Run Downhill
Daughter Chautauqua combines real music with real ideas, challenges the
audience’s perspective, and provides a wonderful alternative to live music in Los
Angeles. This program is presented in conjunction with HM157, one of Los
Angeles’ premiere event and performance spaces.
