This Week in Live Music

Live music picks for the week in and around the Eastside.

Wednesday - It's way sold out, but you'll find 'the kids' at the Bootleg Theater tonight riding the chillwave that is the Neon Indian/Com Truise show. Those of you who keep up with contemporary singer-songwriters in the world of Ameriicana will want to head a bit west tonight as Jason Isbell and Justin Townes Earle are performing at the Music Box in east Hollywood. The last time I saw this pairing was a couple of years back at Spaceland and the evening was truly inspired. Caitlin Rose supports.

Closer to home at , punchy indie rock abounds as one of the Dead Oceans label's newest signees, Nurses, take the stage with Dominant Legs and Harlan. Downstairs at the Echoplex Dub Club presents YELLOWMAN with the Sagittarius Band mixed by Scientist. An evening that is sure to spun way out and funky. Heading west on Sunset, Dirt Dress, along with Owens Valley Dynamite, Babies on Acid, Seth Pettersen and the Undertown gig at El Cid tonight.

Thursday - Get your free on in this busted economy with Tinariwen's early set of Saharan desert blues at Amoeba Music (6 PM). After that head west to the Music Box for the always great Gillian Welch, or east to the Bootleg Theater for AA Bondy, one of the more compelling 'new' singer-songwriters of the past couple of years.

12 bucks get you in the door at the Echo for Braids, Pepper Rabbit, and Painted Palms. Over in Silver Lake, the Satellite hosts Dan Mangan and the Silverlake Lounge presesnts Stephen Brower and the Silent Majority.

Friday - If that free taste of Tinariwen was not enough, the group pairs up with TV on the Radio over at the El Rey on the westside of town. Here at home, the magnificent and always funky, Rebirth Brass Band, visit LA from their home in New Orleans performing at The Echoplex. Having spent a lot of time in New Orleans over the past 15+ years, I really cannot say enough good things about Rebirth if you're a fan of jazz/funk and/or a party. The Dustbowl Revival Supports.

Kindest Lions, Violet Tremors and Jewels of the Nile take the stage at The Echo for $8. Or that same eight dollars gets you into Steve Poltz, Billy Harvey and Daniel Ahearn at the The Satellite.
