This Week in Live Music in Echo Park

Live music picks for the week in and around the Eastside.

Thursday - A Night Of Murder Ballads at the . Consider this your Halloween warmup courtesy of the folks at and the Grand Ole Echo. From the pre-war blues and folks songs of Appalachia to the eponomously named Nick Cave album, murder ballads continue to worm their way in and out of popular culture, gothic or otherwise. With The Americans, , T.O.M. (Troy Murrah of Restavrant), Gabriel Hart of Jail Weddings, and many, many more. Doors at 8pm, Tickets – $10 advance / $12 at the door [purchase tickets]

Upstairs, at , the husband-and-wife duo Big Harp (Chris Senseney and Stefanie Drootin-Senseney) take the stage with singer-songwriter Maria Taylor.

Veteran funk-punkers Fishbone perform at the Bootleg Theater. The band is presently on tour celebrating 25 years together, and by all accounts are still nuts. You've been warned. Also, if you have yet to check out a show in the actual 'theater' of the building, do yourself a favor and check it out. It's very cool. Friday - Neo-shoegazers Tamaryn perform at the Echo along with Slumberland Records' artist Devon Williams and Melted Toys. Jimi Hey DJs.

Saturday - Head to the Satellite for The War On Drugs whose new LP Slave Ambient is one of the strongest "indie rock" records of the year. Purling Hiss and Carter Tanton support. Band of Horses fans should head out to the Bootleg for BOH guitarist Tyler Ramsey's performance in support of his new LP, The Valley Wind. Henry Wolfe and John Gold support.

Sunday - Part Time Punks: It's John Peel Nite With THE FALL and THE WEDDING PRESENT at the Echo.
