Three Rescued From Raging Los Angeles River

LOS ANGELES, CA — Two people and a would-be good Samaritan were rescued late Thursday morning from the rushing Los Angeles River in Atwater Village.

A swiftwater rescue team made the rescues near the 2900 block of Acresite Street, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Two people -- a 33-year-old man and 37-year-old woman -- were plucked from an island of vegetation and a third, a man who was swept away while trying to help the first two, was pulled from the river, which was rushing with water from a spring storm, authorities said.

The man who was swept away sustained minor injuries but declined to be taken to a hospital, according to the LAFD.
