Words, Spoken in Echo Park

Please note that this is a five-day workshop, starting 6/17 and ending 6/21. We ask that students attend all 5 sessions.

AGES: 12 - 18

In this intensive, five-day workshop, students will have the opportunity to examine what makes words perform, what it means to speak and embody text, and what we can do to harness our personal histories, our identities, and voices.

After the initial week of intensive poetry writing, students will then be invited to participate in a weekly workshop where they will further hone their poetic skills through discussion and critiquing of their poetry and poetry assignments.

The workshop will give student poets a way to share their work and build upon their poetic skills, culminating in the publication of a book featuring their poetry and a spoken word event where everyone will have their say!

Activities will include:
• Writing Exercises
• Workshop Poems and Receive Feedback
• Slam Poetry Performance Techniques
• Book Publication
