Today's riddle: Where do math teachers go on vacation? 🤔 (Answer below!)
• The Key to Transit-Oriented Development Isn't Transit (parking-mobility-magazine.org) — El Cerrito's upcoming Plaza BART housing project will sharply cut on-site parking, forcing the city to rethink how neighborhood streets are managed for residents and commuters. Officials are working with consultants on new curb rules, including permits and paid parking, to balance BART riders' needs with those of nearby homeowners as hundreds of new apartments open on the former station lot.
• California Lawmakers Shelve Bill to Regulate Flock Surveillance Cameras Despite Mounting Public Backlash (hsjchronicle.com) — El Cerrito leaders have joined other California cities in ending their contracts with Flock license plate cameras, even as state lawmakers again shelved a bill to tighten oversight of the technology. The move comes amid growing concerns about privacy, data sharing with federal agencies, and misidentifications that can put innocent drivers at risk across the Bay Area.
• Richmond Police Officer Wounded, Armed Barricaded Suspect Now in Custody (contracosta.news) — El Cerrito police helped Richmond officers safely resolve a dangerous standoff Thursday evening after a man allegedly shot and wounded a Richmond officer, then barricaded himself and fired repeatedly from his home. The injured officer is in stable condition, no bystanders were hurt, and investigators are still piecing together details of the Key Boulevard incident.
