First Student-Wide Kickball Tournament Kicks Off This Weekend

Written by sixth grader Adam Geiser:

I'm excited to announce an El Cerrito 4th-6th grade invitational co-ed kickball tournament: the first-annual Boot Classic. It will be held on March 2 from 12 to 4:30 p.m., at Madera Elementary School (8500 Madera Dr.)

The tournament was originally thought up by Madera sixth graders as a way to bring kids from other schools together before we meet again in middle school and also to have some fun playing kickball.

Along with Madera, students from Harding, Kensington and Fairmont will also be participating in the tournament.

The tournament will be a round robin style, to determine the winner of the Boot. There also will be a second, third and fourth place winner. The winning team will win a trophy and bragging rights for the year.

It will be a fundraiser for all of the schools and the profits will be split up evenly among the schools.

Participating schools are encouraged to sell their own spirit items. The game will be all about fairness by respecting the other team.

Kickball is a favorite recess activity at elementary schools, so why not take the opportunity to play with new people!

The BOOT CLASSIC will have Jamba-Juice and tables that will sell other refreshments and merchandise. We are looking for donations from local markets such as: bottled water, energy drinks, and healthy snacks.

Any donation is welcomed and appreciated. Cash donations to cover costs are welcomed.

I'm looking forward to meeting new people and play kick ball. I'm really hoping this will be an annual event, and go on to be a tradition for El Cerrito students.

We know it unfortunately interferes with El Cerrito Youth Baseball Opening Day. We hope that families can make it to both!
