Anti-Gang Program Planned in Contra Costa County

It's been successful in the East Bay and in major U.S. cities. (Breaking)

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY — Contra Costa County supervisors will expand an anti-gang program across the county and are looking for a coordinator for the work, county officials said.

The program called Operation Ceasefire has been operating in Richmond for several years with a significant drop in violent crime, Supervisor Federal Glover said in a statement.

Operation Ceasefire has been successful in Boston, Chicago and Stockton, among other major cities, according to county officials.

The strategy behind Operation Ceasefire is based on research and experience and has evolved to be a comprehensive approach to deter violence while providing employment training, jobs and other services.
