Blaze Extinguished on Roof of Richmond Office Building

Fire officials say the occupants of the building evacuated their offices and no one was injured.

Firefighters extinguished a one-alarm fire that started on the roof of a commercial building in Richmond late this morning, a fire official said. Fire Capt. Rico Rincon said fire crews responded to a report of a heating or HVAC system on fire at 1450 Marina Way South at 11:25 a.m. The mechanical unit was being serviced, Rincon said.

“It looks like it may have burned pretty quickly and may have burned itself out,” he said. Firefighters contained the blaze to the mechanical unit and it didn’t spread into the building, Rincon said. The occupants of the building had evacuated their offices and Rincon said no one reported any injuries.

Firefighters cleared the scene at 12:07 p.m., he said.
