British Airways is launching the first-ever non-stop flights between London and San Jose, creating an essential connection between Silicon Valley and the United Kingdom, Mineta San Jose International Airport officials said Wednesday.
The airline will offer daily service beginning in May next year on the Boeing 787-900 “Dreamliner,” which airport officials described as one of the “most technologically advanced” passenger airplanes on the market. Simon Brooks, senior vice president of the airline’s North America division said the company was eager to bring the most technologically advanced airplane to the tech center of the world.

“We want to give the business community in and around Silicon Valley more options to access the UK and Europe, quickly and easily,” Brooks said in a statement. “With connections beyond London to over 130 destinations around the world, we’re delighted that we can bring the world just a bit closer.”
With 428 offices from Silicon Valley-based companies located in the UK, London’s Heathrow Airport is the single-most requested international destination for travelers from San Jose, SJC Director of Aviation Kim Becker said. San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo lauded the airline’s investment in the city and said Silicon Valley tech companies have long expressed support for a direct flight to London.

“The British Airways announcement to launch service between San Jose and London Heathrow will be well received by both business and leisure travelers in our region,” Liccardo said.
The 216-seat “Dreamliner” is separated into four cabins, offering an exclusive eight-seat first cabin and larger business class, premium economy and economy class cabins.
