One of the most treasured comedies in English-speaking theater, Oscar Wilde’s THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST never fails to delight and amuse audiences - and it provides nine of the most delicious roles in the canon. A madcap farce about mistaken identities, secret romantic engagements, and acute social class satire, EARNEST also contains one of the theater’s wittiest and most sophisticated texts.
Plays October 2nd - 18th in the charming and intimate Live Oak Theater in north Berkeley, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30, Sundays at 2 p.m.

South Fork of the River (a spin-off of Blue River Band) is a bluegrass group made up of seasoned performers: husband-and-wife duo Andree and Austin Hurst, along with Scott Cook, Dave Cannon, and Scott Lindorfer. Their tight harmonies and warm acoustic sound—featuring guitars, mandolin, banjo, standup bass, and fiddle—bring depth and authenticity to both traditional and original songs. Every member of the band is a multi-instrumentalist, adding richness and variety to their performances.

Author in the Archives Series presents
John Pettley, a professional land surveyor for over 38 years, talks about the significance of his amazing find in 1987. At the time, John was a surveying student at California State University at Fresno, and working on his senior thesis, when he made an important discovery about the history of the survey marks atop Mount Diablo.
On July 18, 1851, Col. Leander Ransom of the General Land Office (GLO) labored through thick brush, steep terrain, and harsh summer heat to establish the initial point on the highest rock at the summit of Mount Diablo in Contra Costa County. There he chiseled a hole in the rock and erected a pole with a large flag that could be seen for miles from the surrounding countryside. The grid lines intersected at the Initial Point on the summit of the mountain.
This mapping grid was extended to cover most of Northern California and all of Nevada and was used in deeds to describe the property boundaries in those areas. References to this system are found in numerous property deeds even to this day.
Step back in time with us as we hear the fascinating story of John’s journey in rediscovering this important piece of California and Nevada history!
Doors open at 4:00 p.m. John’s talk begins at 4:30 p.m.

Admission is FREE for CCCHS members, $10 for non-members.

That means real conversations, hands-on help, and curated solutions across top brands like Canon, Nikon, Fujifilm, Sony and more. Learning is at the heart of what we do. Join our small-group classes and workshops, sign up for photo adventures in the wild (from tide pools to elk rut season), or dig into image reviews and practical technique sessions. Our Rentals program makes it easy to test drive the latest bodies, lenses, lighting and accessories—perfect for a weekend project or a big assignment—while our “Try Before You Buy” and paid Gear Outfitting service help you make confident choices.
