Check Batteries In Home Safety Devices

With the time change, it's a good reminder to check batteries in smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors.

EL CERRITO, CA — We changed our clocks over the weekend back to standard time, but did you remember to change the batteries in your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors?

Two-thirds of home fire deaths occur in homes without a working smoke alarm, according to the National Fire Protection Agency. With earlier warnings, people have more time to escape a burning structure and call 911.

Unless homes are equipped with the new 10-year battery smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, batteries in the detectors should be changed annually.
